Graham supported Macmillan's new campaign for improving care for people with cancer by taking part in the launch of their new report.
Macmillan’s new report ‘Improving Care for People with Cancer: putting cancer patient experience at the heart of the NHS' calls for every person diagnosed with cancer to be treated with dignity and respect throughout their cancer journey.
Graham said: “It is a sad reality is that many people have a poor experience of care as shown in the latest results of the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.
“The survey provides insights into the care and treatment experienced by cancer patients in155 NHS Hospital Trusts across England, including some patients:
• Not fully understand their diagnosis
• Not being asked their preferred name they wanted to be called by
• People treating and caring for them not always working well together
• Not being given written information on their condition or their operation
• Feeling they are not involved in decisions about their treatment
“All cancer patients in Weaver Vale should be treated with dignity, respect, care and compassion. The vast majority of NHS staff work incredibly hard caring for and supporting cancer patients. However, the quality of patient experience varies across the country. Macmillan's campaign aims to drive improvements of care and I am very proud to support it."
