The boundary changes are taking place as the Coalition Government is cutting the number of MPs from 650 to 600, to help save money and to ensure that constituencies are of equal size, so that votes are counted fairly across the country.
The plans for Cheshire are radical and the Weaver Vale constituency would be effectively abolished, splitting four ways.
Northwich, Hartford and Whitegate would join with Knutsford and Alderley Edge to form a new Northwich seat.
Daresbury, Sandymoor, Moore, Preston Brook, Norton & Murdishaw would be joining the existing Warrington South constituency.
Beechwood, Windmill Hill, Palacefields and Hallwood Park would join the old Halton constituency, which would be renamed Widnes & Runcorn.
Under the proposals, Frodsham, Helsby, Weaverham and the surrounding rural communities form part of the new controversial Mersey Banks constituency, which crosses the Mersey Estuary at Ditton and Hale and goes as far west as Bebington and Ellesmere Port.
Graham commented: “These boundary changes are taking place as the Coalition Government is fulfilling the promise we made to reduce the cost of our politics and cut the number of MPs.
“These are only initial proposals and there is a lengthy and important consultation process to give local residents the chance to give their views and suggest their own alternative plans. I will be looking at the scheme carefully and making my own submissions in the near future.
“In the meantime, it is important to clarify that the current constituencies remain. If you live in Weaver Vale, I am still your local Member of Parliament and will still be working hard to represent you.”
Local residents can view the proposals in detail and submit their own views via the Boundary Commission for England’s website.
