Graham Evans MP was pleased to welcome the Rt Hon Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Education, to Weaver Vale by holding a meeting with two Northwich Heads and by showing him around Sandymoor Free School.
Graham Evans MP said: “I was very pleased to welcome the Secretary of State to Sandymoor Free School to show him the excellent progress the School is making since it opened in September 2013.
"This follows on from the excellent Ofsted report, published in January, which rated the leadership and management as ‘outstanding’ and all other areas as ‘good’. This is an extraordinary achievement for such a new school and demonstrates how far the school has already progressed and how it is raising educational standards in the area.
“The School has just begun construction of its permanent buildings and which will secure the School’s future, giving it the capacity to educate up to 900 pupils as the population in the area increases. Over 450 jobs are expected to be created during the construction period and the school will have the potential to employ up to 85 permanent employees.
I also held a joint meeting with the Secretary of State, Julie Brandreth, Principal of the County High School, Leftwich, and Keiran Kelly, Headteacher of St Nicolas High School, Hartford, on 1 February.
“Weaver Vale has a number of excellent educational establishments and it is important that those with ‘on the ground’ experience have the opportunity to interact with policy makers.
“I regularly meet with school Heads and pupils to listen to their thoughts and discuss issues facing teaching staff and pupils. I have a great deal of respect for the challenging work that teachers do, so this was a great chance for these Heads from Northwich to meet with the Secretary of State to directly discuss the issues that matter to them.”
“It was a privilege to introduce the Secretary of State to the pupils and teachers who have already made the Free School such an educational success in Weaver Vale.”
