Clocking up 131 miles for charity as MP runs his 5th consecutive London Marathon
Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans will be running the London Marathon in support of the charity Care after Combat.
This year will be Graham’s 5th consecutive London marathon which will bring him level with former MPs, Matthew Paris who ran 5 consecutive years between 1981 and 1985 and Dennis Canavan who ran between 1984 -88. No MP, sitting or retired has bettered the time Matthew Paris ran in 1985.
Graham will be taking part in the gruelling 26 mile run on Sunday 24th April in aid of UK based charity Care after Combat which helps provide professional assistance for the well-being of Veterans and their families.
Commenting, Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans said:
“I’m really pleased to be taking part in the Marathon again, it’s a terrific event which raises millions for good causes and I’m very proud to be putting on my running shoes and doing the 26 miles of the London Marathon for Care after Combat. This is an amazing charity which helps support veterans, and their families. Yes, the training can be difficult for such a long race – but nothing compared to what the brave men and women of our armed forces go through to protect us – it’s an honour to help those who have given so much to our country.”
“I’m staggered that this is my fifth consecutive London marathon. The MP, Dick Douglas ran 10 consecutive marathons as an MP, with MPs Chris Pond and Gary Waller running 8 and 7 respectively. After 2016’s marathon I’ll be next on the list with Matthew Paris and Dennis Canavan – that’s a lot of miles, but I’ve got a way to go before then!”
"I would encourage anyone who has a bit of loose change in their pockets to donate to this charity, or to support my Marathon via my Just Giving page."
